Farzana Aslam
Farzana was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1993 and practiced in London for a period of 7 years. Her practice comprised generally common law and commercial law work, specializing in employment disputes, and pro bono constitutional and criminal appeals before the Privy Council.
In 2001 Farzana joined the in-house Legal team at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong as Head of Employment Law for Asia, advising on a full range of employment issues across the Asia Pacific region. Farzana has extensive experience of advising and coaching senior leadership on legal and HR strategy and risk (including employment issues relating to downsizing, restructuring, mergers, joint ventures, the setting up of business in China and India, discrimination, diversity and cross cultural management).
Farzana is an experienced facilitator, having developed and delivered interactive training products during her time at Goldman Sachs (2001-2007), and having held part-time teaching positions at both the London School of Economics and City University of Hong Kong. In 2008 she joined the Law Faculty at Hong Kong University as a Senior Teaching Consultant. She is currently developing a Workplace Mediation elective for the University’s LLM in Alternative Dispute Resolution and is co-General Editor of Employment Law and Practice in Hong Kong, due to be published by Sweet & Maxwell in 2009.
Farzana has served as a Trustee for Public Concern at Work (1994-2000), an Executive Committee member of Amnesty International Hong Kong (AIHK) (2007-2008), and is the Convener of the AIHK Human Resources subcommittee. She is a legal advisor to the Hong Kong Refugee Advice Centre (HKRAC), and has recently been appointed as First Vice-Chair of the HKRAC Executive Committee.
