Thursday 17 May: Developing a Strategy on Mental Health and Wellbeing for your Workplace

“The UK is facing a mental health challenge at work that is much larger than we had thought. Not only is there a big human cost of poor mental health at work, there are also knock on impacts for society, the economy and government. Employers are losing billions of pounds because employees are less productive, less effective, or off sick.” – the UK Government’s Stevenson/Farmer review of mental health and employers.
The 2017 Health and Safety Executive Labour Force Survey estimates that the total number of working days lost in Great Britain due to work related stress, depression or anxiety in 2016/7 was 12.5 million days and that stress accounted for 49% of all working days lost due to ill health in 2016/7.
Many organisations have already created and/or implemented a strategy to improve the mental health of employees. For those yet to make a start, or unsure what to do, and to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, this session will help get you thinking. We will explore:
- What we mean by mental health and its relevance to, and impact on, people in the workplace.
- Why employers should be taking action.
- The mental health core standards recommended in the Farmer Report and the Time to Change principles.
- A model for understanding and managing pressure and stress at work.
- How to develop a strategy in your workplace, keeping in mind best practices from other workplaces.
There will also be the opportunity to network with other delegates.
Who is this session for?
HR/Wellbeing professionals, line managers and leaders, who are concerned and/or responsible for the wellbeing of their employees.
