Manager excellence • workshop programme

Session 1: Management essentials
An essential introduction to leadership. This opening session lays the groundwork for developing your own personal management style, bringing out the best in your people, and understanding the core dynamics at play in workplace situations.

Session 2: Effective communication
Communication is the key to fostering high performance, avoiding problems, and building effective teams. In this session managers explore the theory and practice of highly effective workplace communication. We look at the core skills and build confidence to walk towards challenging conversations in a positive way.

Session 3: Process, procedure, and the legal framework
There’s a lot of process and law out there and you need to know how to avoid the pitfalls. Managers often have heard horror stories about claims (discrimination, harassment, unfair dismissal…) and they may be inhibited by fear of the ‘law’ without really understanding the basic legal framework. This session, built around interesting real life cases, tells you just what you need to know to handle the risk and kill the fear factor.

Session 4: Work life balance and accommodating the ‘whole employee’
Everyone balances work with their personal lives, pressures and priorities. And there’s always the unforeseen curve ball. From requests for flexible working, time off for a charity bike ride, holiday absences, maternity and family leave, to long term sickness absence, there are management challenges and concerns. We look at the key factors you need to consider and provide practical guidance.
