Improve the menopause experience for your colleagues.
As a GenM partner, you're committed to changing your workplace to support menopausal women. But getting everyone to buy-into why they should care; getting them to see there is something in it for them and showing them the part that they play is a multifaceted challenge. We can help.
Our expertise covers more than just menopause in the workplace
We joined GenM because we’re passionate about delivering on our purpose and making a positive difference in workplaces. Here are the many ways we can help you:
Joining Gen-M is a huge positive step, but now the real work begins – and not just for your HR and Communications teams. Advocacy from your most senior leaders - the tone from the top - will be key to making your GenM pledge successful in the workplace and getting your people to believe that this is a place where I’m supported. We help senior sponsors to understand the why (the benefits of inclusion), the what (the impact of menopause on your people and your business) and crucially, the how: proactively and consistently demonstrating authenticity, vulnerability, compassion and understanding. There’s a financial incentive for supporting employees through menopause, but for that to be gained, your leaders need to harness soft power. We show them how.
This is the stuff that supports change, but it’s not the change in of itself. Done well, your cultural scaffolding will support and make everything else you do from here easier. You might have already done some of this work – if so we can partner with you to complete a review, help you fill in the gaps or help you start from scratch:
- Taking the pulse: It’s important you understand the cultural setting you are in now as it relates to the menopause, where you want to be, and the gap in between. We can take various approaches (not just surveys) to capture where your people are at, as well as how this changes over time. This ensures your initiatives resonate and engage, and that your strategy can evolve alongside your people.
- Developing policies: Your menopause policy doesn’t have to live in a dusty corner of your intranet. With care and consideration, your menopause policy can be something that truly reflects your business, the expectations of your people, as well as being really human and accessible. We do policies well – including referencing menopause in your other policies and creating effective learning interventions/guidance required to support the policy eg guidance packs for managers
- Strategic planning: Research has shown that return on investment is obtained when employers engage in sustained cultural change. Developing a menopause specific cultural roadmap, or embedding your menopause objectives into your mental health & wellbeing and equity, diversity & inclusion strategies will greatly increase your success.
Research has shown that:
- the most effective organisations are the ones that have quality conversations
- company culture has a much bigger influence on employee wellbeing than salary and benefits
- motivation at work is largely impacted by our feelings of connection to others
Our human conversations sessions get to the heart of what really changes workplace culture. We’ve designed this programme to equip all your people to have quality conversations. We distil and explore the key elements of what we bring to conversations, and how to make them impactful. The core session is a standalone reflective session which is aimed at all staff but is a must for leaders and managers. We then build on that core learning with a series of add on sessions that look at human conversations in any number of different contexts and subject matters - including menopause, race, change and more.
Managers are critical culture carriers. In a recent study, 69% of people said their managers had the greatest impact on their mental health, on par with the impact of their partner (UKG). However for many managers there remains some uncertainty as to what they can say with their employees and how to do it - particularly when it comes to menopause. We get managers to understand the huge impact they have, why they need to buy-into cultural initiatives and how to take action (and importantly initiative) to support their teams. We use a blend of tools and approaches – both in person and digital - to equip your managers to communicate authentically with colleagues around menopause.
The most effective organisations are the ones that have quality conversations. Our shared goal is a workplace where all colleagues feel safe to practice open dialogue around menopause. We ensure your people are aware of what menopause is, how it might impact people and we provide practical ways to support colleagues with empathy and respect. We can do this a number of ways to suit your organisation and people – in person, virtually or through digital learning or a blend.
