Nick McClelland

Chief Executive Officer

I have the absolute privilege of leading the talented team at Byrne Dean as CEO. I have spent the past 18 years consulting with HR, Risk and Finance across employee benefits, culture, health, engagement and wellbeing globally with roles at Thomsons Online Benefits (now Darwin), Marsh McLennan and Champion Health.

My personal purpose and focus is in helping our teams and individuals perform through a people first leadership approach, with a focus on driving sustainable growth, innovation and creativity in the workplace as the world around us goes through rapid change. My role at Byrne Dean is to drive the business forward, addressing these challenges for our clients and our own business.

I am fascinated by workplace dynamics and relationships, particularly the new challenges that are developing at speed with the change of generations, technology and societal shifts. Byrne Dean is uniquely placed to address these challenges through a combination of legal expertise, a deep trust in human connection and a strategic approach to often complex and emotive workplace issues. Our purpose is to create kinder, fairer workplaces that realise the potential of people and business. A natural alignment with my own purpose and values.

Whilst I have never practiced law, I did study law at University, although perhaps I was a little more focused on creating a rugby career for myself! I managed to play professionally at London Irish and represent Ireland at Schools, Under 19 and Under 21 levels whilst balancing my studies.

Today, in my spare time, I love food and enjoy cooking with my family. I also try to keep fit and enjoy going to the gym, cycling and skiing during the winter months. One of my proudest achievements is a cycling event I organise every few years called Ride2Recovery. Inspired by tragic events where my best friend’s brother was stabbed and paralysed in an unprovoked knife attack in 2008, together we have raised over £500,000 for a variety of charities.
