Partnering to tackle the tough mental health challenges of the Insurance industry
Our client told us: “Byrne Dean has been a trusted partner for over five years, delivering impactful leadership workshops and providing high-quality training. Their bespoke approach has consistently empowered both leaders and colleagues, enhancing our collective ability to support mental wellbeing across the organisation. Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the sessions as both transformative and deeply valuable in fostering a culture of awareness and support.”
The challenge
Every industry has its own unique challenges to mental health & wellbeing, and insurance is no different. A 2025 survey across the industry found that nearly nine in ten insurance professionals report widespread stress and anxiety, citing tremendous ongoing change in the risk environment due to extreme weather events, economic volatility, and technology disruption as some of the key factors. One major firm has consistently taken this issue seriously, and we have been long-term partners, working together to address the challenge comprehensively and help them stay ahead of the curve.
The solution
The multifaceted approach we work together on includes education, training, and finding targeted ways to empower colleagues, which we’ve done together with hundreds of team members over several years. One of the most influential sessions has been monthly mental health leadership workshops, where over 400 people leaders have been trained to-date, to proactively manage their own mental health and that of their team. Others include:
- Ongoing training and support for their Mental Health First Aid cohorts to keep their knowledge, skills and confidence up to date.
- Suicide First Aid training sessions, to cover this crucial, sometimes overlooked issue in corporate workplaces.
- Crisis communication, specifically designed for frontline colleagues on how to spot and act on signs that a customer may be in a vulnerable position.
Together, we work closely to make sure we’re covering all topics and people, evaluating where the next areas of focus should be.
The impact
Through our long-standing partnership and the firm's deep, ongoing commitment, the integrated approach to mental health continues to expand in impact and success. There is a clear sense of an evolving culture of care, and consistently positive feedback. From our monthly leadership sessions, one analysis showed that after three months, 100% of participants felt it had made a difference to their workplace conversations on mental health, and that they’d directly applied the learning into their role. All corporate workplaces face a stigma around mental health, though this firm also reports a clear rise in people now openly citing their mental health as the reason for an absence, which is so, so common for people to hide.
